Acemind Academy offers one-to-one online IB Maths tutoring for both Diploma courses — Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Applications and Interpretation (AI), at SL or HL. Classes run live online, follow your school’s teaching order, and include guidance on the internal assessment. Your first 45-minute session is free; WhatsApp +91 93449 55920 to arrange it.
The IB Diploma offers two mathematics courses, each at Standard and Higher Level, and they reward different habits. Both share five topic areas — number and algebra, functions, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, and calculus — but they weight and approach them differently.
If your child has not yet settled on a course, the right choice depends largely on what they plan to study after the Diploma. Check the entry requirements of the universities they are considering, and talk it through with the school’s IB coordinator.
A tutor can explain how the two courses differ in style and workload, and what a typical week of HL study asks for compared with SL. The decision itself belongs to your family and the school.
IB questions are seldom routine. A question often opens gently and then asks your child to apply the same idea in an unfamiliar setting, and Higher Level adds Paper 3, with longer problem-solving questions that build part by part. Working one-to-one, the tutor sees exactly where a solution stalls — the algebra, the interpretation of the question, or choosing which method to reach for.
Yes, within the limits the IB sets. In both courses the internal assessment is a mathematical exploration: an individual written piece on a topic the student chooses, marked by the school, moderated by the IB, and worth 20% of the final grade. It is assessed against criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics.
Our tutors can talk through possible topics, explain what each criterion is looking for, and help your child understand the mathematics they want to use. We do not choose the topic for them, write any part of the exploration, or edit their draft. Under the IB’s academic integrity rules the work must be the student’s own, and it is their school teacher who supervises it and comments on the draft. If you are unsure what outside help is allowed, ask your school’s IB coordinator.
Because classes are online only, the format works the same for a student at an IB school in Kerala and for a family living abroad. You might be looking for help because a Year 1 topic never quite settled, because your child has moved between AA and AI or between HL and SL, or because the May or November exam session is approaching and revision needs structure.
Every class is followed by a written summary of what was covered and what to practise next, reviewed by our team. Students see it in their own panel; parents see it in theirs, next to the history of completed classes — helpful when it is the student who manages a busy Diploma timetable day to day.
